Fringer Implant Features

This implant passively disrupts surveillance attempts utilizing video and voice recognition.

Passive Effects

Camera distortion

The implant user is completely immune to facial recognition software. The TN for identifying the implant user by manually reviewing video footage or similar is increased by +8.

If the user is being tracked by reviewing photo/video footage, and a gap spanning 8 hours or longer occurs between instances of footage, the adversary will no longer be able to rely on previous facial features to track the user, and will need to succeed on a new test to identify them if there are no other blatantly identifying features (e.g. clothes, large exposed tattoos, carrying a unique object, brightly colored/heavily styled hair).

The user cannot control this effect or disable it.

Flavor

This implant alters the reflective and refractive properties of the operator’s skin across various wavelengths picked up by digital camera sensors. These effects are imperceptible to the human eye, but will result in significantly altered appearance on digital cameras. Facial appearance in video playback may look distorted or uncanny, especially to those who are familiar with the operator’s typical appearance. The dermal alterations are constantly fluctuating, completely changing over the course of 8 hours. This adaptation is only skin-deep, and will be rendered ineffective by makeup. This adaptation will not prevent adversaries from tracking the operator by means beyond facial recognition.

Audio distortion

The TN to surveil the implant user via voice recognition performed by software is increased by +6. A separate roll must be made for separate audio, as the implant also repeatedly changes the minor voice markers as to remain undetected.

Flavor

The implant imperceptibly alters various aspects of your voice, preventing it from being identified by standard voice recognition algorithms. Your voice will not appear altered to the human ear, but the constant, continuous alteration will passively render automated analysis ineffective.

Implant Abilities

Audio Mimicry

The implant can alter the user’s voice over a minimum 5 minute warm-up / adjustment period. Returning to the user’s baseline voice requires 5 minutes of adjustment.

By actively mimicking 5 minutes of a high-quality voice recording, Alfie can reshape his vocal chords to that of another human’s voice for up to one hour. This effect will not deceive voice recognition software, but it will fool the human ear. An adversary will automatically succeed on rolls to determine the authenticity of the voice when aided by software, but they won’t be able to determine the true identity of the voice.

With 30 minutes of high-quality voice recording, the user can mimic another human’s voice for up to half an hour. This level of preparation confers all previous benefits, plus the user has a +4 to deceive voice recognition software.

Each time you use this feature to mimic another’s voice you must prepare by listening to and repeating the recording even if you have already heard it.

Flavor

Through a series of targeted chemical and biological processes, this implant can temporarily re-shape your larynx and trachea, allowing you to alter your voice. This alteration can be used to create a unique voice, or to take on the voice profile of a target. A minimum of five minutes of clearly audible speech from the target is required to successfully impersonate them. Because this implant is intentionally designed to resist external interference, it contains no access port. It will analyze the the source audio passed in through your ears. Repeat what you hear until you can hear your own voice align with the target audio. To fool digital verification equipment, a minimum of 30 minutes of unique source audio repetition is required. The effects will begin to revert naturally after one hour in order to prevent lasting impact on your larynx. The implant will not affect your ability to mimic the vocal mannerisms of the target, so be sure to pay attention and practice.

Combat Implant Features

This implant also augments the operators proactive combat reasoning, as well as strength, and speed. This implant contains experimental improvements made to attempt to avert the blood-poisoning and pre-mature health decline effects of its predecessors. The implant sits against the amygdala, and confers a number of benefits to the operator. As with all Predator Frog implants, this one cannot be removed without potentially fatal damage to the operator. This prototype implant has been shown to impede gustatory functioning in some hosts.

Passive Effects

Juice Addiction

Consuming Juice from a Crash Couch is necessary to reset your Borrowed Time ability (see below). It will also reduce the self-repair time of a damaged implant. Additionally, Juice fuels some of your abilities. You do not suffer from the negative effects of Bad Juice, and do not take fatigue or exhaustion when using juice. If you go too long without juice, the implant could malfunction in unpredictable ways.

Zero-G Adaptations

You do not require medicine or treatment to maintain the bone-density typical of a life in 1G, and the amount of exercise required to maintain muscle mass is similar to that of a human living in 1G. Additionally, you ignore penalties for moving and operating in free-fall, and cannot be disoriented by a lack of gravity.

Flavor

The implant passively synthesizes bone-density drugs using Juice, and prevents rapid muscle atrophy common among belters. Regular exercise is still required. This implant augments your inner ear and sense of balance, significantly reducing disorientation from lack of gravity.

Augmented Vision

You gain the Perception: Seeing focus.

Implant Abilities

Abilities can not be used if the implant is in a damaged state.

Toad Mode

Using a Minor Action, Alfie may enter Apex Surge (Known colloquially as Toad Mode), allowing him to perform up to two additional turns before the next character can act. His STR becomes a minimum of 3, and FIG becomes a minimum of 5. Alfie is limited to specific Major and Minor actions, listed below. His unarmed attacks deal 1d6 damage.

At the end of the first additional turn, Alfie makes a TN 13 Willpower test to maintain Apex Surge. Alfie gains Fatigue after exiting Surge.

Available Actions: - Major: Melee Attack, Charge - Minor: Move, Activate, Ready

Apex Surge cannot be used when Fatigued or Exhausted.

Flavor

A flood of chemicals wash over Alfie’s nervous system, briefly increasing his memory, cognition, strength, and speed to inhuman levels. The flood of biochemical inhibitors released in order to end this effect will leave Alfie in a state of fatigue.

Electrolytes

Once per day as a Minor Action, injecting Juice intramuscularly will allow Alfie to recover from Fatigue caused by an Implant Ability. This action will not remove/reduce Exhaustion or remove Fatigue from other sources.

Borrowed Time

Alfie may instantly gain the benefits of a Breather (Pg 89) (restore fortune of 1d6 + con + lvl) during or immediately following combat. If available, this effect also occurs automatically the first time he would take an Injury, which he avoids. He may use this ability once before consuming Juice from a Crash Couch is required to recharge the effect.
